Hello, and welcome to Meet the Wild Things website featuring all our conservation focused books including Wild Places: The Life of David Attenborough (G.P. Putnam Books for Young Readers, 2.6.24) and four books in the upcoming Meet the Wild Things series including: Hello, I’m a Sloth, Hello, I’m a Pangolin, Hello, I’m a Quokka and Hello, I’m an Axolotl.
Back in 2020, when many of us had a little more time to reflect on what was important to us, we started viewing more and more nature focused documentaries and read more about the loss of wild places and alarming loss of wildlife. It’s not so much that we didn’t know this was happening, mind you. Like so many people, we felt helpless to make an impact of any kind. So, we decided to team up, and do our best to amplify the stories of the animals we love and highlight the work being done by some of the most heroic conservationists, scientists, and ecologists around the world. So far, our research has brought us to the rainforests of Costa Rica and the Sub-Saharan bush of South Africa, where we were able to study these animals up close and have the opportunity to meet with these experts firsthand. It was Hayley’s volunteer and pangolin research trip to South Africa with Wild Tomorrow, a nonprofit actively restoring wild places and wildlife in one of the most biodiverse hotspots on Earth that inspired Hayley and John to establish the Children’s Book Creators for Conservation group. The CBCC, will be embarking on their first volunteer/research trip with Wild Tomorrow in October 2023 with the goal of bringing fresh conservation focused stories to young readers everywhere.
